Who are we?
Central Cricket Club was formed in the late 1940’s by Returned Servicemen, no doubt in the interests of clubbing together in pursuit of camaraderie, community spirit, and healthy lifestyle.
Some seventy years on, the goals have changed little but the club still remains intact. Central has three senior teams, with ages ranging from 15 through to early 50’s.
In 2016/17, our club and the BOP Indians club formed a new partnership where we would pool our resources for a joint premier team in an effort to compete more strongly with the dominant Tauranga sides. This partnership has grown from strength to strength with a fantastic season in 2018/19, making the final and coming runner up in the marquee Williams Cup competition, and also placing 3rd in the 20/20 competition.
Our Senior Reserve side has also performed well, consistently making the finals in their annual competitions. This includes a T20 championship in the 2019/20 season. A growing number of the reserve team are also getting opportunities in the premier side through strong on field performances.
In 2021, Central Cricket Club entered a new team into the Reserve Grade competition. We are very proud to have an Academy side within the club and performing strongly. This team is critical to provide younger teenagers the opportunity to play amongst some older heads, who will be able to provide them with some knowledge and allow them to gain the skill to strive to further their cricket achievements. This team will also provide a pathway to premier cricket also.
